Manuka Honey Magic Face Treatment

About once a week I make myself a beautiful spicy manuka mask, while I am taking a long , warm, healing bath. This is one of my favourite rituals. I absolute love baths and while applying a mask, the heat from the bath opens my pores , making the mask work more effectively.

Manuka honey has amazing healing and anti-bacterial  properties. It offers amazing anti viral, anti microbial and anti bacterial health benefits and can be used to boost the immune system to fight off illnesses and improve skin conditions.   It is a specialist honey, and to see the benefits you need to get the proper stuff (not all honey is created equal). It is very important to make sure that you’re getting the real deal. Proper Manuka honey comes from New Zealand, and will have a UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) rating of 10+ or more on its label. The higher the number , the stronger the antibiotic effect. Cheaper imitations are likely to be less effective.  I always make sure that I buy organic , as I believe that it is better for the skin and the environment.

The amazing hydrating properties of Manuka honey means that you can just apply it to the skin on its own, however I love to add different ingredients to it for an extra special benefits.  It can be used as a skin clearing mask and will work wonders due to its anti bacterial properties. Manuka is a potent anti inflammatory and can be used to soothe inflamed and blemished skin. The amino acids in Manuka honey will  gently slow away dead skin cells , revealing clear and glowing skin. Manuka promotes skin regeneration, repairs cellular damage and lessens scarring.

These two recipes are an easy way to incorporate this wonder ingredient into your beauty routine.

Clearing and Beautifying Mask

My favourite way is to mix  1 tbsp of honey with a pinch of turmeric and cinnamon. Cinnamon is great for improving fine lines by plumping the skin by stimulating the blood vessels and bringing the blood flow to the face. It is a great anti septic and anti bacterial , so great for blemished skin.   Turmeric will help to exfoliate the skin , can help to fight acne by reducing oil secretion by sebaceous glands.

This mask works wonders after steaming the skin or while in the bath. Apply to damp / clean face and allow it to work for around 20-40 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Exfoliating mask

The ingredients in this mask are natural and effective and will intensely cleanse the pores. The oil will soften the skin, the brown sugar will gently exfoliate and honey will soothe and nourish the skin.

1 tbsp of Hemp Seed  or Risehip oil ( or almond, olive , jojoba , coconut oil or whatever oil you prefer)

1 tbsp Brown Sugar

1 tbsp Manuka honey

Mix the mixture well and apply to damp face for 5-7 minutes. When finished rinse your face with warm water .
