When it comes to essential oils I have over the years learnt to use them to help me relax, rejuvenate, calm, energise and balance my body , mind and spirit , so much so that I now cant imagine myself not using them every day and loving their potent powers. I love to use essential oils externally , even applying them as a perfume on my pulse points can change my mood almost instantly. Here I will talk about the emotional benefits of my favourite essential oils, as the beauty benefits of them are a whole different topic. Essential oils carry the essence of the plants in such a potent form that a single drop of essential oil can equal multiple teaspoons of the dried herb (for instance, 1 drop of peppermint oil equals more than 25 cups of peppermint tea and oils can be up to 70x more potent than their dried herbal form). And they can be used or applied in a multitude of ways and combinations to bring powerful results to your atmosphere and bodies.
My favourite ways to use essential oils in by external application, I love to mix it with some carrier oil and apply them on my chest , face or just smell the aroma from the bottle. I also love to apply it neat on my pulse points as a perfume or even put some on my hair .
Here are some of the oils that I use frequently and rely on and absolutely love
Lavender– oh how I love this beautiful oil. I usually buy mine in France , directly from the producer and make sure that I get the best quality I can, as there is not a day goes by that I don’t reach for this little magic oil. It is an absolute must have for me and I have already written an article on the many ways I use this oil .
It is probably one of the most versatile essential oils in the world and the therapeutic uses for this oil are endless. Its fragrance is calming, relaxing and balancing. This oil has great balancing properties, balancing our digestion, our moods and our nervous system.
One of my favourite ways to use it is a relaxing sleep remedy . I simply put a few drops on my ( and my son’s) pillow and my wrists or mix it with some carrier oil and rub it on the bottom of my feet, while inhaling it with every breath.
It is an amazing oil to use before meditation as it can help to calm the active mind, in order to reach the higher state of consciousness.
Frankincense– this oil has a strong smell, so may be not to everyone’ s liking, but it is one of the most spiritually charged oils. It has been around for thousands of years, and brings us mental peace and clarity. Because of its high vibrational aroma , this oil is often used in meditation helping us to drop our Ego and move into our spirits. I love to rub a few drops on my pulse points before meditation. This oil can also be applied to the bottom’s of the feet to relax and balance mood swings.
Rose – True, unadulterated, and pure rose essential oil (Rosa damascena) is actually pretty hard to find. Most of the time you will find a highly diluted oil, usually no more than 5% rose oil in a base of oil . This is because of the high cost of extracting rose, an oil extraction through the steam distillation of its petals. Did you know it takes 12,000 petals to produce one single 5ml bottle of rose oil? Despite these obstacles it’s still a very much loved oil, both for its aroma and its benefits. Its true aroma is rich, floral, sensual, and oooooh so heavenly.
The scent of rose is related to our heart, and enhances the feeling of Love. It opens our heart and soul to Love and spiritual connection. It is also so helpful in alleviating depression and insomnia.
I just love to apply this oil on my face and décolletage area and enjoy its divine aroma and also a drop or two (undiluted) on pulse points.
Neroli – an essential oil that comes from orange blossoms. I love most citrus fruit essential oils for their uplifting and energising aromas, but Neroli is my favourite for its sweet, floral and fresh scent.
This beautiful oil, drives away sadness , anxiety, invokes a feeling of joy and happiness, while uplifting the overall mood. I love to use this oil as a perfume , rubbing it on my pulse points, behind my ears and also on my my chest area.
