Activated Charcoal Detoxifyng Face Scrub and Cleanser

This recipe is great as it allows you to wash and exfoliate the face at the same time. Charcoal is an amazing detoxifying ingredient , it has an ability to remove the unwanted toxins from the skin, eliminate blackheads and reduce blemishes. Sugar is a great natural polisher, which seals in moisture and  gently buffs away dull and dry skin, leaving you with a glowing complexion. Sweet almond and castor oils acts as a gentle and effective make up removers and the castile soap gives it a foamy consistency for an easier use.

Lavender, Rosemary and Tea tree  Essential oils are great for treating congested and acne prone skin and have antiseptic and antioxidant properties.

This recipe is an oil / castile soap based recipe and I absolutely love washing my face with an oil, as it not only removes make up , but also  won’t strip your skin of the natural oils it needs, and therefore less likely to overproduce oil to make up for the oils that have been stripped away. This two-in-one cleanser is a great all rounder, the activated charcoal, natural oils and sugars are combined to detoxify the skin, fight acne, exfoliate ,moisturise and cleanse at the same time. It is suitable for all skin types and is gentle enough to be used every day.

For this beautiful recipe you will need ( 100 ml) :

100 gr white sugar

10 gr Castile Soap ( I used Dr Bronner’s Castile Soap, which is easily available in most health stores)

4 gr Shea Butter ( melted in a bain marie )

3 gr Castor Oil

2 gr Sweet Almond Oil

1/2 tea spoon Activated Charcoal

15  drops Lavender Essential Oil

10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil

5 drops Tea Tree essential Oil

How to make:

Weight and measure all of the ingredients , melt the Shea Butter and mix all together to achieve a cleanser/ scrub like consistency. Make sure that all of the oils are thoroughly mixed together. Transfer into a clean and sterilised jar .

You can alternate and add in different essential oils to this recipe.

To use, scoop a generous amount into your fingers and gently massage in circular movements onto a wet face for about 30 seconds until the sugar dissolves, rinse and pat dry.  Your skin will be left feeling clean, soft and fresh.
