Homemade Coconut and Honey Hair Mask

I am obsessed with Coconut Oil and I have already written about its benefits in previous posts. There are so many uses to this oil and I am continuing to discover some great recipes using this magic product.

Each of the ingredients in this mask offer great benefits to your hair. Coconut oil is great for sealing in hair moisture, it also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties, which is great for dandruff treatment. The nutrients such as Vitamin E , Vitamin K and iron, will help to  keep hair healthy and smooth. Coconut oil is one of the best oils for hair and this particular recipe is great for dry and damaged hair. Honey in this mask acts as a humectant and will help to keep hair moisturised. It also has anti bacterial properties and will help to keep scalp healthy. Apple Cider Vinegar balances the PH balance of your hair, removes the build up from styling products and will  help tclose the cuticles of your hair, leaving it shiny and smooth.

This mask is so basic and so easy to prepare. It is so good for your hair and what’s great about is that it’s totally natural. The ingredients are easy to find in a health food store and as long as the oil is raw and cold pressed , then the success of this mask is guaranteed.

The ingredients for this mask are:    image

1 tbs coconut oil (Virgin, cold pressed)

1 tbs honey ( Raw)

1/2 tbs apple cider vinegar

2 drops of Lavender or Rosemary Essential oil (optional )

Mix all of the ingredients together until fully mixed. If your coconut oil is hard, you can firstly melt in in a bain marie for a minute or so, to achieve a softer consistency.

Apply generously from top to bottom , concentrating on the ends of the hair, as this is where the most of the damage occurs. Wrap your hair in a bun and leave on for about 30-40 min.  You can apply this mask on dry or wet hair. Wash the mask off with your usual shampoo.

The use of the essential oils in this mask is optional, however essential oils offer great benefits for hair. Lavender oil and Rosemary Oils are great for all hair types and especially and  good for treating dandruff and itching, and also in improving hair growth.

I make this mask from scratch every time I want to use it, however you can make a bigger quantity of this mask and keep it in a jar for future uses.

  1. Awesome tip. I love using coconut oil too. It makes my hair soft and shiny. I haven’t try combining it with honey and putting any essential oil. I would love to try it. Thank you for sharing.
